Jutland revisited

I've spent significant amounts of time in Jutland lately visiting friends in Aarhus and grandparents in Aalborg. Thursday I once again found myself in Aalborg as I had an interview Friday morning. So I spent the night at Kristiane's where we celebrated that Amalie will issue her first book, watched funny things in TV and talked and talked.
More than four hours in the train heading north is a long time......
 Proud friends drinking champagne.
Friday after the interview I hitched a ride back to Copenhagen with my mom. We drove over the Great Belt bridge in the finest spring weather.
We went to Louisiana with my youngest brother looking at avangardist women's art and breathtaking photos.
We also ate there, which was a surprisingly good experience.
I took my brother into town Saturday where we walked around shopping, and he bought a cool cap. It's always good with some brother-time.

Breakfast this week; luxury

This week I had a good habit; eating breakfast out. I went to different places in Nørrebro and had a coffee and a roll with cheese, and then I sat there for about half an hour reading my book about Hemingway before riding my bike to work. Such a luxury. First morning was Coffee Collective in Jægersborggade, next was Lyst in the same street, and Friday was Ricco's in Stefansgade.

Birthday night in Christianshavn

Lovely Amalie, soon to be a great writer with a published novel (!!!), threw a classy lady birthday party yesterday in her apartment in Christianshavn. Gossip, giggles and festivity. And over-the-top food!

Nørrebro houses

The other day, when I was waiting for my wash to finish at the laundromat, I took a little walk along Nørrebroparken. On the green wall they put up around the building site for the new metro, a bunch of creative minds have hung little bird houses modelled after some of Nørrebro's famous places. Such a fine idea!

Berlin leftovers

Aaaah. I'll be there again in a month, can't wait.

Weekend in the north

This weekend I visited my grandparents. Throughout my childhood I've moved around a lot, so their little village in the northern part of Jutland has always been a second home. I even lived with them for a month and a half once, when my parents looked for a house upon our return from France. Oh well, the little town is very dear to me, and there are always so many stories of the people there. My grandparents know them all, and to hear them tell about it is always a huge joy. This Saturday I attended a women only party with my grandmother - I won't go on forever, but only note that my 71-year old grandmother won a drink served by a man in underpants. Priceless. Otherwise, we had lots of coffee and good food, and it was lovely as always.
I started off in Nørreport Friday afternoon - I've never seen it so full of people. You could barely move, and it made my sensitive being slightly nervous....
 Mmmm...
I love this. Who does that?!
On my way home on the train - which was made very very long by the fact that the only seat available was in the family zone (NEVER again!) - a small consolation was this middleaged couple going at it at one of the trainstations...

Friends

I took these photos a few weeks ago when Chris was in Denmark. Forgot I had them, so it was nice to open my computer and rediscover them. They remind me of such a good afternoon with the girls, talking endlessly, feeling happy, young and sort of on top of the world.

The day we killed a seagull

"Let's have lunch in the city!" said the art director. "On me! Let's have sushi at the pier in maritime surroundings!"
So we drove down to Langelinje, along Indiakaj. There were two seagulls on the road, one fled, the other didn't. Afterwards, it sat in the road, paralyzed and injured with a bewildered face, as if it didn't know what happened to it. We had to kill it. As soon as the art director had pulled out an iron item from the car to finish the poor creature off, a big truck came to the rescue. A little hesitant, it drove its fat tyres right over the seagull, I heard a snap, and the white feathers covered the air. It was definitely dead. And we were sad.
With this dramatic action, we drove down and ate our sushi by the sea, wind playing with the hair and with a view to the construction site where they're building the new FN-stuff. We couldn't help thinking that the seagulls flocking around us were out to revenge their murdered friend. But we hoped they just lusted for some raw fish food...
The day started out less dramatically at Grød with AnCa. We were in much need of a good talk, so we slowed down over a coffee and filled the air with words.
Mmmm... My love for sushi is ever growing. I don't know why it took me so long to understand it.
